What is Gamma Exposure (GEX)?
Gamma Exposure represents the sensitivity of an option's delta to changes in the underlying price. Market makers hedge their gamma exposure, creating support/resistance at high GEX strikes.
Key Levels:
- Call Wall: Strike with highest positive GEX (resistance)
- Put Wall: Strike with the largest put GEX, shown as the deepest negative bar (support)
- Gamma Flip: Where total GEX changes from negative to positive
Positive GEX: Market makers sell into rallies, buy into dips (stabilizing).
Negative GEX: Market makers buy into rallies, sell into dips (amplifying moves).

Understanding EEM gamma exposure
EEM gamma exposure is driven by the dollar, Chinese policy, and global growth expectations rather than by anything company-specific. Because a large share of the index sits in Chinese, Taiwanese and Korean equities that trade while US markets are closed, EEM regularly gaps at the open, and its options market spends the first hour of each session re-hedging overnight moves that already happened elsewhere.
That structure makes the EEM gamma flip level a practical gap-risk gauge rather than an intraday pivot. Open interest concentrates in monthly expirations, where institutional EM allocations get hedged, and the resulting call wall and put wall tend to persist for weeks - useful for swing timeframes. Call-side gamma builds fast on China stimulus headlines, and the wall that forms above spot has repeatedly marked where those policy-driven rallies ran out of fuel.

EEM GEX FAQ
What is EEM GEX (gamma exposure)?
EEM GEX measures the aggregate gamma that options market makers carry across all EEM strikes and expirations. When EEM GEX is positive, dealer hedging dampens price moves (selling rallies, buying dips); when it is negative, hedging amplifies moves. It is calculated from open interest and each contract's gamma across the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF options chain.
What is the EEM call wall and put wall?
The EEM call wall is the strike with the largest positive gamma exposure and often acts as resistance, while the EEM put wall is the strike with the largest negative gamma exposure and often acts as support. As of the latest snapshot, the call wall is at $62, the put wall is at $62, the gamma flip level is near $66.44.
What is the EEM gamma flip level?
The EEM gamma flip (zero-gamma) level is the price where net dealer gamma crosses from positive to negative. Above it, market-maker hedging tends to suppress EEM volatility; below it, the same hedging amplifies moves in both directions. The latest computed flip level is near $66.44.
